Four Steps to a Perfect Gift Box
hristmas is, by far, one of my favorite times of the year and while presents should not be the focus of the holiday, it’s an excuse for me to exercise my love language of giving gifts. I’ve found that a thoughtful present, no matter how big or small, can mean the world to someone. I know that Christmas is only a couple of days away, but if you’re still looking for a perfect gift, hopefully I can help! When it comes to presents, gift boxes are my favorite things to put together. They are extremely thoughtful and can be given at any time of the year! Here are four solid strategies for putting together the perfect gift box.
As obvious as it may seem, intentional brainstorming before shopping can result in a great gift. Here are some helpful things to think about:
- Inside Jokes/Memories: A great way to personalize any present is to think about inside jokes or memories that you may have with a friend. A reference to this time will make your present unique to your friendship.
- Mental Notes: I’m pretty fond of doing some investigative work around my friends and often try to make mental notes of things they mention. If your friend talks about how much she’s always wanted to receive flowers, make a mental note to draw upon that later!
- What’s Going On: Think about what is going on in your friend’s life. A semester abroad, new job, or first year at college can really help tailor your gift to their big events.
2) Choose a Theme
Although it isn’t necessary, having a theme in mind can help guide your compilation of gifts.
If your friend is studying abroad, you could make an entire box themed around that location. A simple winter box could include a warm accessory, hot chocolate, good book, and a scented candle. The items above could work for a box themed around beauty and accessories. Basically, a theme will help tie your items together and make everything more cohesive.
3) Mix and Match
Another great gift box idea is to purchase a mix of high and low priced items. Target’s dollar section has some really cute items that work perfectly. For $2, I bought a set of mustache iPhone holders as well as a trio of patterned lead pencils. In the same box, I have two gorgeous nail polishes from Urban Outfitters and a small nourishing hair mask from the Birchbox Shop. Combining high and low end items is a way to treat your friend while also sticking to your budget.
4) Don’t forget the box!
In putting together a gift box, don’t forget the box itself. A great idea is to utilize a box that your friend or family member can use again. Michaels sells photo boxes that are a great size and relatively inexpensive. Another more personal idea is to find a simple box (Birchboxes happen to be a perfect size) and customize it for your friend. You can use nice markers to write messages on the box or mod podge to adhere photos to the cover! Metallic anything happens to be a favorite of mine for the Christmas season and you’ll find that I’m usually finding a way to incorporate gold in my presents.
I hope that you have found these four tips to be helpful. However, there isn’t an exact science to gift giving. When it comes down to it, the best presents are the ones that have had the most thought put into them. Let me know the best gift boxes you have received or given! I’d love to get some more ideas. Wishing everyone a warm and wonderful Christmas!
